by all, should benefit all and hence it should not remain restricted
to certain pockets.

We will move forward with the idea of comprehensive welfare.
Hence it becomes imperative that we think about the North Eastern
region of India. We need to help the North East financially. Leaving
North East to its destiny will no longer work. We will need to
redefine our thinking.

Today we have more than 20,000 colleges in the country. Students
from each college go on a 10 day tour. This is a regular programme
in the colleges. Have we thought of guiding our colleges to undertake
a 10 day tour of our North East at least once each year? Just think, if
100 students from all the 30,000 colleges go to the North East each
year, how much the tourism of that place will be promoted. The eco
tourism of the region will receive a boost. Every citizen of India will
then become aware of the trials and tribulations of the people of the
north east. This will strengthen the bond with the north east. There
will be people in all corners of the country who will be ready to hail
the motherland. There cannot be the only one way to embrace them!
New methods have to be devised to run the nation and then if needed
plans need to be developed accordingly. Once during my tenure as the
Chief Minister of Gujarat, I had written a letter to all the Chief
Ministers of the North East in this regard.

Once when Manmohan Singhji was the Prime Minister, he had
called the meeting NDC, where I had publicly requested to send
200 women police officers from the North Eastern States to Gujarat
