Today, the biggest challenge lies in reaching our thoughts to the
very last person. Last man delivery is the biggest issue and at the root
of this problem lies in the governance.
We got Self-Governance, but let us accept that we could
not provide good governance. I was elected the leader and in my
first speech, which some must have heard, I clearly stated that I am
not of the view that previous Governments did nothing. Governments
do not come to power to do nothing. Each Government comes
with a mandate to do something and everyone did something
during their tenure. We are here today as a cumulative result of
whatever was done in the past. But whatever was done was less than
the expectations, it did not proceed in the desired directions and the
nation as a whole lacked enthusiasm. And we will now work to fill
in those gaps.
Sir, those very nations who claim to be poor are wielding missiles
at us. Our country was once known as the Golden Bird. We were
the foremost amongst the prosperous nations. We were also known
for our knowledge and scientific approaches. But the years of slavery
destroyed everything. But we can still come out of it. How do we
strengthen the ideal of “Swaraj”. We got so burdened with our ideals
of democratic setup that somehow good governance took a backseat.
Good governance is accountability to the common man.
Good governance is accountability to the common man.
Today, can we claim that our entire governance system is
accountable to the common man? The first premise of a democracy
is that it is accountable to its citizens. But currently, this is not the
situation. Can we claim that the poorest of the poor are being heard?
